Considering a home made bandsaw

I need one, can't afford one. story of my life. I have a lot of osage that wont make a bow due to bugs, but could easily make parts for the base and frame. I have several 3/4 horse motors from hot tub water pumps. All I need now is to figure out wheels, adjustments, bearings guides... EVERYTHING. Anybody got a set of plans or ideas they had?

There is a bunch of how to videos out there. It doesn't look that difficult especially if you just make one for straight 90° cuts, no bevels and such. I looked at doing it myself for a while but I just don't have the room.

I don't know Sleek. Sometimes when you get done with a project like this it would be cheaper to go to Harbor freight and pick one up for around $100.00. But you seem to be ambitious so make sure you let us know how it goes, with photos.

Don't overlook craigslist, every now and then a real bandsaw bargain pops up, much cheaper that it would cost you in parts to build one.

When I checked often I saw a lot of Craftsman 12" for around $75. The are only 1/2 hp but with a sharp 3 tpi skip tooth blade they will cut anything you put in them. I used one for the first 10 years of my bow making, it was a good saw but when I built a new shop I wanted a big Griz. I sold the Craftsman for $75.

Harbor Freight band saw is a lot more than a $100.

Don't pass up one of these if you see one cheap. It's a metal cut-off saw. The saw stands straight up and I put a small table on it. It's only half horse but being for metal it's geared way down. Slowish, but nothing stops it. It will handle up to a 6" round log. I put a 1/2" 3TPI blade on it. It's not a 14" Griz by any stretch but it's served me very well.

Rob, I never know where I'm gonna be or when one month to the next. I'd Trade you for it, wouldn't wanna just take something.  I'm in NC  where abouts are you?

Sleek I'm in PA if you want to take a ride sometime it'll be here maybe you can get Pat B to ride with you I told him I have a piece of Osage for him that's about 30 years old if he ever gets this way
