Bendy handle Sycamore shortbow
« on: July 14, 2019, 01:48:11 am »
Hi guys!
I'd like to share with you my newest creation. It is bendy handle American Natives inspired shortbow. It's made from Sycamore wood. Only 109 cm ntn drawing around 55lbs at 20". Finished with varnish. Arrow pass plate made from Osage Orange and cow horn. Some flax twine on handle.
(Tiller pic was made before putting final touches)

All the best!

Do not see many sycamore bows around here, very cool. Bet it is a beast to draw.

The bend looks good.  Nice work on the tiller.

Nice bend on this nice little bow. Is this European sycamore, plaintree?
Is the shrub in the first pic a viburnum?

Thank You StickMark! Yeah that's crazy stick!
Thank You SlimBob. Did my best!
Thanks Pat. Yes it's European Sycamore (Acer Pseudoplatanus). No, it's Ribes nigrum. But I have Viburnum also in my garden.  :)

That looks like a sinew string? Like how you left it wide and flat...Looks like a nice shooter...

Dream –

That’s a lot of bow for 43 inches of Sycamore! Plus, very nice character and final touches! Good Job!
It would be interesting to know how much that shorty weighs.

Sick bow. I'm not sick of seeing this bow and I wouldn't be sick of seeing more bows like this sycamore!

Seriously, though it is a cool bow.
