red oak wood lift

i made a red oark board bow a while ago and the wood at a certain point is starting to lift. small not big sheets. like little pieces at the same place on both limbs. i put super glue on them they. hold but a few more "popped" out. could i "patch" the area with some inner bark or using a patch that will be good enough to dry in just a few days? is inner bark good at all for backing the thing? thanks fellas.

Put some Titebond II or III, or some felxible epoxy in there, and wrap the limb with thread. SHouldn't come loose after that.

i dont know about inner bark though. as long as its tough it should work

was your bow that you made backed?  i back my board bows with linen.

no actually i didnt. and i saw you do that, ill have to do it. seems easy. what kind of linen and how is it done? :)

go to a fabrics store and ask for 100% linen sheetes or sometimes goodwill will have it.

squeeze a good healthy stream of glue on the back of you r boww and put on your strip of linen. make sure it is saturated in glue. then trim the edges and shellac it.

silk also workd but i have always heard linen is better.

in ttb1 it says linen is better than sinew for brute protection but linen wont add sip it just protects it.

i trim the linen close with siccors then do the rest with a file

Sounds to me like you have Grain Peel going on there....your Best Bet would be a Linen or Silk Backing....and be done with it

i lay it on and make sure there is no air bubbles. so its got to be a ltittle tight then. i put it on and smooth it out towards the nocks so it doesnt bunch up.
just as long as there is no gaps or air bubbles

yeah, i think i will. ill do what kegan said till turkey then after turkey i do the backing. turkey is nexy week and i need to shoot and finish some arrows, along with school and others things it will hold with just a patch. but, thanks david and it looks good too. on your board bow. nice job man.

I believe they were talkin' about flax fibers. Linen is made from flax but its not as the same as fax fibers..........bob
