With persistent misinformation. I just saw where someone posted, asking on another site, for sinew substitutes. Fiberglass was recommended on the back. Then artificial sinew was mentioned. Another suggested bamboo.

How in the heck, after all these years of learning, the existence of the TBB series and this site, are people still spreading this manuer? And for clarification,  bamboo is a good back, but terrible as a back if the bow isn't designed for it. But to suggest glass mat and artificial sinew, come on, who is perpetuating this nonsense?

No, just reading it exhausted me. I'm not known there really, I just kinda lurk. Why complain if I'm not gonna do anything about it, could be said. I guess I dont have the energy for an argument.

I dont get how it keeps coming up. Was just hoping there was a book we can burn or something.

Some people have the same reaction to your opinions on short bow design and performance.   

Not everyone builds a bow for top performance.   They could be just trying to get one to stay in 1 piece.  Gluing artificial sinew or fiberglass tape on a bow in that situation might help.  It will probably make a slow, ugly bow but it might hold it together.

There are quite a few very good Bowyers  using fiberglass to back their bows, but they are not claiming to make primitive self bows!  Using artificial sinew might pose some real problems getting it to stick to the glue !

I like Osage’s response.. im still new to this,and have done a couple sinew backed bows, but artificial sinew and FG tape have to be stronger than flax or brown paper bags..just not maybe quite as primitive.

What made you think to put glass on the back back then?

I looked on a website called poor folk bows and it recommended it. Back then (3 months) I was looking to be cost effective and was really just looking to build a bow that wouldn't blow up. I also saw clay hays videos and thought that fiberglass would be just like rawhide. Now I got the primitive bug and it only lets me have certain symptoms!

Nothing wrong with putting glass on the back. Its just  not a natural materials bow. To each his own. Not for me and certainly wouldn't let it ruin my day.

Yep to each their own, and remember this ant for everyone. Just like golf , bowling or tennis , I can't see the point but doesn't bother me that others do, that's what make the world go round ya know.
