Current knife project
« on: May 10, 2019, 12:04:34 am »
Got everything quenched and sanded at this point. Undecided about the handle shape... might do more of a fawns foot style with Blackwood or sheep horn idk.
Was a brand new file but all I saw was a knife. Softened in the forge, filed and ground down. Lots of hand sanding. I bailed on a differential heat treat and etch bc I was too lazy to make up some coal/clay insulation or even go to the store for refectory cement 😆 lol
But the blades hard and I could really use some ideas for the handle!
 Please? And Thanks you!

go for sturgeon or fish skin  :OK
nice blade!  isn't the file part still too new and not flattened?
it will collect dirt and could be difficult to clean

Looking good Bryce, i like your ideas on the handle with blackwood, with maybe a white and red liner that would pop
failure is an option, everyone fails, it's how you handle it that matters.

Purple Heart would look good with a black liner, too.  Nice blade!

I'm a fan of osage scales.  Let me know if you ever need some for knife handles.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Hmm I have some scraps of sturgeon that might work if I have enough, I also have some ray skin as well that might look nice. But idk what blood and bile would do to it.
Yeah I was careful to leave the file cutters as intact as possible, now I don’t have to carry an extra file for my broadheads out in the field ;D ;D

Liner? Where at? Between the scales? Pommel? Guard area?

Purple Heart would look good with a black liner, too.  Nice blade!

Yeah that’s good wood for handles. But if I use purple my brain automatically has to add some yellow in there. Just doesn’t feel right with out it  ;D

Clint! Buddy! Of course man! The way Osage ages just makes it a gem. Even if I don’t end up using em for this, I have plenty of blades without handles!
Every custom bow I dish out, I like to throw in a knife as a thank you.
Shoot me a pm man we can work some stuff out if you want!

Nice looking knife, Bryce. Ed
Thanks bud! Hope those shafts and staves are being put to work!

I’m also not against grinding it out and doing a hidden tang.

Liner between the scales and the Tang is what i was thinking about
