All great advice. I’m not a fan of the boiling and squeezing together. You gotta have some room for the glue:) and like what’s been said the glue, no matter which kind prefers a rough surface to really hold onto.

With a bad fit, heating and clamping to achieve a better fit still leaves plenty of room for glue. Like any glue joint too much clamp pressure can starve the joint. I usually use a toothing plane iron to score the splice surfaces as well.

Some of my splice cutting jobs early on were so bad that I had to insert shims to fill the gaps.

I got good tutoring from Gary Davis on spliceing but i to cut a few shims at first Eric.
