Another Molle question

I've seen people suggest or ask about using Spruce as levers on a Molle. has anyone actually done this? I'm thinking it may be strong but will it bend? If I was to back it will it take compression?

I have seen one example of a composite using Sitka Spruce. 
 
 As long as it is not bending much at all the compressive ability of the wood becomes less important.

Thanks Pat.I'll keep my eyes open. It's SG is about half that of Yew. Oh,but if I put a Maple or Boo backing on it I lose some of that advantage. Still :)

You can taper the backing strip aggressively past the splice.

Was the spruce on the composite just used as a core, like with sinew backing and horn belly?
