brace height vs string length
« on: April 08, 2008, 02:27:19 am »
hey all ive got 4 hickory bows, all cut from board staves, all the same length nock to nock. same width and taper. on all but 1 the same length string will put them within 1/4 in of the same brace height. roughly 6in. on the other bow the string is about 2 in shorter to achieve the same height. any idea what causes this? 2 of the bows are for me and 2 im givin to friends.

If you lay the bows, braced, on one another you will see a difference in the bend through out the length of the bow. If the string is a specific length and the staves are the same length the only difference is the bend of the bows. A stiff handled bow and a bendy handle bow will use different length string, everything else being the same.    Pat
