Hickory ‘squirrel’ bow

My newest bendy stick for my buddy. It’s his ‘Squirrel bow’. It’s a hickory bendy handle in a sort of eastern woodland style but with corian and buffalo horn overlays. I tried to leave as much of the bark of the horn exposed as I could and solidified it with thin CA glue. It draws 70# at 29”. A bit heavier than intended at 65#, but he can shoot it just fine and he wanted a heavy bow. Going off the India inked on markings, I bet you couldn’t guess why it’s called his squirrel bow. But it’s a smooth shooter that grows a heavy arrow hard. I don’t know the speed, but you hardly have to think about hold over to 25 yards with a 600gr arrow. Oh, and the handle is built up a bit with a 1/4” layer of cork on the belly side, to make it a bit more comfortable to shoot.

Nice Kyle! Nothing like making a bow for a buddy. What's the dimensions? If you don't mind the question. I may be needing to make one a little heavier than i'm use to in the near future. 70 lbs....makes my shoulder hurt just reading.

This is so you can take the squirrel through the branch. The dimensions are 65” ntn, 4” handle, limbs are 30.5” from the end of the handle, 1.25” wide at the handle, 2” fades into the limbs, 1.5” wide to midlimb then tapers to 3/8” nocks. I hear treating twice heating in about 2” of reflex, which all pulled out leaving the original stave profile.

nice bow, like it! I haven't made enough bendy handles so maybe you can help me and tell me why your inner limb looks quite stiff for a bendy - is this because of the higher draw weight?

I typically like to leave the center around the handle stiff, so that you can barely feel it moving but you can feel it. Then the last couple inches drop the weight from that section. It still won’t be moving much, but enough I know it’s doing something. This one also isn’t bending as much as it could be in the handle as it was left a little on the long side for the draw weight to width ratio I used. You can definitely make the middle work more, this tiller just seems to get me a stable, smooth shooter.
