Hey guys,
I thought I would post the bow I finished tillering at the Marshall Rendezvous last year. This bow was another bow that I made too light because for a long time I kept making the same mistake of not checking the weight enough again and again, so I kept shortening the bow from its original length 72" tip to tip until it was 58" tip to tip. The bow was 25#@29" when I finished tillering it at the Marshall Rendezvous but when I worked on more when I got back home, I went overboard with the sanding and it ended up being 20#@29". I know the tiller is not perfect but its been a good bow to have around. I injured my back muscles in February of 2018 and after I recovered I found I could not pull back my 40 lb bow anymore and the only bow I had in my possession that was lighter was a 20#@29" bow I made in 2017, so I started shooting that bow instead with the intent of building bows progressively heavier and heavier until I get back to where I was before, so making another light bow like this wasn't too much of a bummer for me. This is the first bow I have made that I have actually killed something with. One day while I was practicing with this bow this past summer I shot a mouse that was rolling around by my archery target. The bow is a D-bow made of Oregon White Oak, it measures 58" tip to tip, 56" nock to nock. The width at the grip is about 1 1/4" after sanding, it originally was 1 3/8". The grip is some polished hemp string wrapped around the grip area and then saturated with wood glue. The arrow pass is calf hair. The original string I made for it at Marshall is an endless string made from linen but since then I have replaced it with a string I made from nylon millends because I wanted to try nylon and see how it worked as a string material. The finish is 4 coats of boiled linseed oil. I learned or re-learned the lesson that its hard to make writing from a Sharpie marker stay after putting boiled linseed oil over it. I named the bow "Ino" because this was supposed to be Plan I for a bow I was trying to build for my uncle, meaning Plan A, Plan B, Plan C, Plan D, Plan E, Plan F, Plan G, and Plan H all failed before it and this bow isn't what he's looking for so its another failed attempt, and I had to think up of a "I" name, so I named it after a female character from the manga/anime Naruto named Ino. The painted designs are the symbol of this character's clan. Thanks for looking!
Thanks,
Aaron
