Osage Static Recurve
« on: January 04, 2019, 06:09:31 pm »
Worked all day on this static recurve.  This one lined up tip to tip pretty good for what I started out with.
Did some steaming of the statics and used dry heat to add in the deflex.  I'll trim the tips once I get it to about 27" draw.  I'll cut the tips back so the string just lifts off the limb about 2" from full draw.  Will most likely add some sinew and add a turkey feather backing over the sinew.
This one is targeted for
55# @ 29"
62" ntn
Hopefully more to come,
DBar

The temp in my shop started out at 61 and the RH at 35% .  The steaming added a little...…:)

Thanks BJ.....
I'm expecting the RH will get down to about 20-25% by Feb...... it has the last few years, Ill be ready to add the sinew then. Im only adding two courses of sinew with a thick course down the middle, so hopefully by the end of March, it will be dry enough to add the feather backing at the Outlaws place.
This one may take some time I just hope it finishes.
Thanks DBar

Yeah that’s looking real nice.  Do you think sinew is necessary or more for assurance?

Ben,  JMO  ;)
At 62" ntn, 29" draw, static it can be done without sinew.  But, I want a long lasting bow that can be shot with confidence every time it is drawn back.  Each limb only has about 24" of working limb.

It wouldn't surprise me if you don't hit the 240 yard mark at mojam. Looking forward to seeing this bow finished!
