Maple backed Yew Longbow
« on: December 31, 2018, 09:03:24 am »
I started on this bow a couple years ago.  It was not working out, too circular of a tiller, so I put it aside.  A couple months ago I took it down and decided to fix it, for myself since I don’t have a longbow anymore.  I took the backing off and added a strip of Buckthorn over the splice then glued another backing down.  This time it turned out well.  The bow is 66” N to N and pulls 43# @ 28” (45# @ 29”).  Horn nocks, of course, and a 300# linen string, I used some high quality linen I picked up several years ago so the string is quite slim. After Don’s post about hand-shock I was curious how this bow shot, lots of snow outside so indoor is all I could manage.  I couldn’t feel any hand-shock, perhaps it’s as Dell says and that it is subjective.  It does shoot quite well spitting arrows at a good pace.

I love looking at the bend of your bows. Top notch work as always.  8)

Great looking bow, always excited to see your work.  Does it have more of a D cross section, I can't tell from the pictures.

First bow I have worked on in half a year.  It felt good to make it and I am happy with it

It is a full D section bow

I need to take better pictures of the nocks
