small point from big gravel
« on: December 25, 2018, 11:30:03 pm »
This was  a big ol nice looking piece of landscape gravel.
It had a lot of cracks under the surface and at least three big cracks That I barely got past before it was to small to make a knife blade like I was hoping for so I decided to flute it.
You maybe can see a magic marker line across the point near the tip end. That's where I wanted the flutes to gently roll out and stop but it didn't work. Next time I may try touching it lightly with my finger and see if that might work better than the line did at stopping the flute. Might have to use a toe because I'll be using both hands. IDK
I apologize for the dim pictures, been having to use an old SLR and it just don't seem to take good pics after using a smart phone for a while. I just got my phone operating again to where I can get the pics to my PC to edit and post so future pics should be a lot better than these are.

Nice chip along!  I like the flutes.  Maybe there is more rock around here than I can see!  Still learning bows, arrows and strings!  Can't hunt big game with flint here!

I have confiscated some of that landscape gravel when we visit out there in the winter. More like landscape concrete to me. You can work that you can work anything, lol Very nice work.

I'm sure if I could have gotten a point out of that rock, it would have been a lot smaller than that 1442. Really nice.

Thanks yall
I've worked more gravel than any other flavor of rock.
This piece was really sweet material to work but it had a lot of cracks to deal with.

I hope y'all like pics of working gravel because I got my phone and PC working together now and about a bucket full of gravel from a new load at the local landscape supplier
