Osage Recurve with Copperhead Skins 55#@28"
« on: September 17, 2018, 06:18:15 pm »
I got to do this piece as a custom order for a gent. It's an osage recurve backed with copperhead skins. It's 64" long and pulls 55#@28". Those copperhead skins sure look nice framed by the osage wood. It's a good combination. Big thanks to Bubby for working out a deal for the skins. I was coming up dry everywhere else. I've been liking these wide limbed osage recurves lately. They have great performance yet they're plenty solid and sturdy. The finish is tru oil. The handle wrap is dyed elk leather stitched with kangaroo lace. The string is D97.

That's a beautiful bow Weylin!  When that osage starts to darken it will look even better with those copperhead skins.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Pretty awesome!

You mind sharing your width dimensions? I have a couple clean pieces of Osage I’d like to do something similar with.

That's a beauty.  The colors blend so well.  Nice bend also.  You make some top notch bows.

Thank you, everyone. It's great to get your feedback on my work.

When that osage starts to darken it will look even better with those copperhead skins.

I think about that. I hate that I don't get to see that happen on so many of these bows. I send then out all fresh and yellow.

You mind sharing your width dimensions? I have a couple clean pieces of Osage I’d like to do something similar with.

Not at all. I used a pretty standard american flatbow profile and made it 1 3/4" wide.

I like you different background.  :OK

Haha, thanks. Someone told me I had a Pat B background now.

Thats nice Weylin, I started going wider with my osage a few years ago and like it better.

I didn't have the drop in performance like I expected. They still seem very quick shooting but less prone to taking set. There may be a minute difference but with the recurves it seems to all balance out.
