first knife
« on: September 15, 2018, 04:29:56 pm »
My brother brought me some more BIG pieces of obsidian from California.  I took a spall off of one of them and started working.  normally, my attempts at knives either end up as very small arrow heads, or just as a bunch of rubble on the tarp. This time, my thinning flakes did better than normal, and I avoided snapping it.  It isn't perfect, but better than most of what I have done lately.  I like the way the color changes with the change in light.

That's a killer knife Jeff!  And i am jealous of that huge chunk of obsidian. Can't wait to see what else you make. Cheers- Brendan

Very nice Jeff. Looks like you still  have a little left over for a point or two.

In the second pic you can see a bit of rainbow near the edge (towards the middle-rightish area)

That a great looking knife. You did a very nice job on it.  I agree, looks like you have a nice chunk of rainbow obsidian.

I can honestly say I would not want to be on the receiving end of that knife!
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

Good looking knife Jeff. The handle and hafting look great.

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

Thanks all.

Eddie the knife is hafted with pitch glue and obviously sinew wraps.  I got the wood as an extra in a trade, but I can't remember now who sent it or what exactly the wood is.  If it looks familiar to anyone, let me know so I can give credit.
