Sinew backed Juniper bendy handle 51#@28”

My first attempt with juniper. I acquired the stave from Chuck Loeffler. Came out ok 51#@28” OAL length 59”. Walnut shelf and tip overlays. Elk and whitetail sinew in 3 layers with Titebond hide glue. I topped the sinew with Weldbond because it dries clear then hit it with tung oil and finally wax. It’s cured in this state about three or four weeks now.  I could wait to shoot it but if it picks up no more draw weight that’s fine. It has taken no set so I’m happy. Planning to deer hunt with it so i overbuilt it for durability. I think i like juniper a lot.  Drew on my inner John Strunk for the cane and leather handle wrap. A bit of a knotty piece so i left some wood in those areas not having worked juniper before.  This was a high crowned stave so maybe i could have gone narrower. I did not decrown it.

Nice bow with a really sweet bend. Looks like it'll hunt. I wish you the best of luck and Happy Hunting. I gotta try juniper some time. She's like that pretty girl that your mom told you to stay away from. She's pretty, smells good and from what I've heard can break your heart with a explosive ending. Hopefully she true to you. She sure looks good.

I'm assuming that's Juniperus virginiana (ERC)? A great candidate for sinew.  :OK

oops, should have read the description on the picture page more carefully.  :-[ It certainly looks like ERC

very nice!  I also got a rocky mountain juniper stave from Chuck.  Mine is almost all sapwood and I just hope it turns out as nice as yours.

Thanks folks. I have to get more juniper.  Next time I’ll go with Knox and let it cure into big reflex. This was kind of quickie.
