Osage English Longbow 68" 54#@28"
« on: September 06, 2018, 05:45:59 pm »
I had a stave that really couldn't be anything else. It was a long skinny stick of osage. My goal was to make a snappy longbow with little to no hand shock. Osage is tricky in this regard because it is so easy to overbuild with it. I tried to keep it as slender and refined as I could while still maintaining lateral stability. I'm really pleased with the results. It has the nice smooth draw of a longbow and has an efficient cast. There is very little handshock which was my biggest worry.  The tip overlays are cow hoof as is the inlaid strike plate.

Very nice bow Weylin! Elb's are my favorite type of bow. And that's a nice one. Simple and clean. Great tiller! Cheers- Brendan

Thank you, Brendan! I love a good ELB too. It's been too long since I've made one. I have a lot of great yew that is seasoning right now. I'm looking forward to making some more of these out of the "proper" wood.

Well done with a skinny stave, that is a beau of an ELB.
If you had asked my estimation about the poundage I would have said about 90#  -  this stick looks powerful in the fd.
