‘Roadrash’ black locust - 55#@25”

Roadrash started as a selfbow, 2” out of the fades till midlimb tapering to 3/8” nocks. The limbs are 25”from fade to nock, 2.5” long fades and a 4” handle. It got a goat rawhide backing and a face lift in addition to its name when a buddy laid his bike over while riding home after an evening of roving. He didn’t end up too bad, a few scratches, some light bruising and a small flat spot in his helmet. The bike ended up with crooked handle bars, a couple broke lights and a bent shift lever. The bow ended up with some scratches along the back and a torn up handle wrap. I restritched the handle wrap leaving some Frankenstein like stitching. I sanded the back clean of scratches and applied a rawhide layer. Since I backed it I went ahead and applied a set of ball python sheds. I refinished it with 10 coats of truoil and a couple layers of sprayed on clear enamel over the skins to put a hard layer over them. It slowed down a bit but is still fairly quick. It pulla 55# at 25”, and is other wise a simple flatbow with mild reflex in one limb and deflex in the other.

The outer 2/3 of the bottom limb could bend more.

Thanks for the input. I didn’t realize it was that off until I put the picture up. That’ll be an easy enough correction without disturbing the writing.

That fixing and stitching is worthy of a "patch job attaboy".  I remember the handle looked a bit ragged when you were working on it!  Good job!(for some reason spell check inserted "voodoo job" - maybe that's appropriate, too !

A pic of you drawing the bow will give you a better view of the tiller. Tiller trees have their place but the static hold can give a false reading.

The middle of the top limb should be bending less.

I think k it looks a lot better after some heavy sanding in those spots with some belt sander paper and some 60 grit. The left hast a deflected spot about 6” from fades and a reflex spot about midlimb. Te unbraced is tight after unbracing and there is about 3/8” of temp set in each limb. It’s already back to its resting shape. With no additional set after first tiller before having to back it.
My first full draw was way off. I was lazy with the fix and didn’t retiller when the brace didn’t show anything dangerously off. With these thin limb I forget how little sanding it takes to shift things around.

Pulling it on the tree is waaaaay different than pulling it in hand....I take pictures the last 2-3" of full draw to final tiller.
