hickory heartwood for backing?
« on: July 23, 2018, 06:18:54 pm »
Any reason why the heartwood wouldn't make good backing strips? I've got a lot of hickory on my property, but most of the trees are 80-90% heartwood so I don't think getting sapwood-only strips is possible.

From what I've seen it doesn't matter.
Some like motorboats,I like kayaks, some like guns,I like bows, but not the wheelie type.

I even once used a backing strip of half sapwood and half Heartwood and it didn't introduce any twist!

Cool.  8) I've got many strips that are half and half. Thanks bushy!  ;)
