hickory heartwood for backing?

Any reason why the heartwood wouldn't make good backing strips? I've got a lot of hickory on my property, but most of the trees are 80-90% heartwood so I don't think getting sapwood-only strips is possible.

I even once used a backing strip of half sapwood and half Heartwood and it didn't introduce any twist!

Cool.
I've got many strips that are half and half. Thanks bushy!
