Ready for a Parade

I posted a picture of  this tractor with a bow awhile back. It was the first new tractor my grandpa ever bought. It arrived on the farm two months before my dad was born. We wanted to get it running for my dads 80th birthday. We got it running but it needed a lot more attention. We got it ready for the parade now and my dad smiled proudly as he putt putted down parade street. She runs like a top now. Still have a few oil leaks to fix, but their both running pretty good for 81 years old.

Thanks Pat. It was repainted in 1976 for our bicentennial thrashing bee. We had it running poorly then and it set ever since. We went completely through it this time and cleaned all the sludge out of lines and cases. Good thing to, the oil pump drive coupler was twisted off. Gas tank was a real mess to but we fixed it up better than new.

Pearl it's a 1937 John Deere AR with a whopping 26 hp

I would be so proud do accomplish a task like that.
I was under the impression that oldies like that had a much
narrower front wheel base, I guess they had both as yours
looks very stable.

Yes Zuma like Pat said. This is wide front model. Also narrow front and orchard model available I believe. Some guys really like the narrow front because they could turn so sharp but they were also tippy

Very cool tractor.

We had a parade of pre 1960 tractors come through town over the weekend, almost 50 of them all chuggin along. Neat stuff.

Thanks Paul, I remember this tractor sitting in the corner of our machine shed when I was a youngster. When I was very young I'd sit on it's steel seat and pretend I was driving it. As I got older more "stuff" got piled around and on top of it until we couldn't even sit on it anymore. The 1976 bicentennial probably saved it. We decided to rescue the old gal. Maybe if the next couple generations give her a little TLC she'll last at least another 81 years.
Thanks Pappy, I love all The Deere young and old. Although I gotta admit all these sensors on the new ones can get real frustrating at times. Often wondered what Mr. Deere would think of his company and what it's done to feed the world. Sure come a long way since his first plow.
Thanks Kyle. I remember my dad telling me that before I could walk I could make the perfect sound of a two cylinder engine.

There is certainly something about that sound , POW---,pow,pow,pow )P( )P(
 I had an old Super C International I used to skid logs. My son was about
six months old when he became a wild child for that sound. It would remind
me of a spring time Ruffed Grouse. My boy also hung tight to the vacuum
cleaner while his mom did the floors. Never met a woman attracted to that sound.
