       You, me or anyone else cannot promote sales here unless we have a "paid" classified section... You are promoting these books and giving direct links to sales...Why would you challenge an established rule of Primitive Archer...

A rule that limits a poster's right to pass useful information on to fellow bowmakers is bad, especially if it's real purpose is mercenary. If that actually is the case here I'll post elsewhere, where posting such useful information is not prohibited. Marc has given me a second warning. Curious to see if the powers that be see the issue as Mark does.

Posting direct links to the sale of items that do not sponsor or support the PA magazine or website are against the rules.
Your basically advertising without paying any dues.

As far as I know, this is the most popular primitive archery message board; it's where the largest number of primitive bowmakers assemble on line. It makes sense that the place where the largest number of bowmaker assemble is the natural and proper place for new and valuable tools, materials, processes, books and such to be discussed, including where-to-purchase information. If not there, then where? So I'm puzzled that bowmakers would choose to assemble where their ability to post and receive the full spectrum of useful information is restricted. 

Allowing such would make the site more valuable to readers, and it seems that as a result, more valuable to the owners, by encouraging loyalty, generating good will, and increasing participation. Maybe if that case is made to the owners they'll change the rule and allow full flow of information. 

Years ago I declined the editorship of Primitive Archer mag because of similarly restrictive rules: they were a deal breaker for me then and are now, so I'm leaving this site for less restrictive pastures. I  hope they change the rule. If so I'll be back. Meanwhile I'll be posting on PaleoPlanet.

Remember Pat, Tim was not here when the board was locked up.  Tim is flagrantly breaking the rules now and my guess is he will be posting elsewhere

It is good to have you back. I always enjoy your contributions as do the newcomers.

Yes, I am still here. I know of no other site where bow building rides in the front seat so I'll be hanging around. I've noted that the second wave of  bowyers are beginning to step up so that makes me happy.

As for the book, I've often thought of it but......life gets in the way sometimes.

You probably don't remember but you are the one who gave me the impetus to start writing magazine articles. Thanks.

Come to think of it, I cannot think of anyone who was around for the whitewood wars. There is an occasional skirmish now and then but things are changing. Same with board vs log. If you wrote Ch 2 earlier I may have had a shooter much quicker. LOL.

As for the link, you gave the heads ups and the title of the book and people are sufficiently computer literate to track down the link on their own. The link is not needed.

I think Jim would understand.

 So he's probably not advertising on here at this point.

What does lining your pockets, and brazen self promotion have to do with helping people make bows? Is it ok to "pas it on" long as you get paid?  Between book writing guru's, and the professional bow builders, and the whole "mine is bigger than yours crowd" it's no wonder why the enthusiastic support ya used to get is just about petered out. 
   Ya got to have a real big ego to join up and think you are above the rules, or that special exceptions should be available because your "special".  It is a damned miracle that anybody ever made a bow without all those books ya all wrote, you might wish to keep your "knows all" entitlement a little bit more in check, but thats not going to happen is it? Shame on you.

Tim, please reconsider. I consider you to be an icon in the field of wooden bowmaking. If you leave this forum because of a technicality, you'll be denying many people the benefit of your knowledge and vast experience. That rule may be unfortunate in this case, but imagine where it could lead if its struck down. Don't let idealism rob us all of the great benefactor that you are!

Glad to see Jim Hamm is still going ,I always enjoyed his writings ,the book looks great like said geared for beginners, wish I had it when I started , I passed the info on to one of my coworkers who has a interest in making a self bow ,and glad it's written in a hands on view with out a lot of useless info, I think it will help a lot of people get started !
