Which yew sapwood ring to chase

I agree that it’s pointless, I’ve made many bows where the sapwood is violated heavily, but I’ll admit I’ve never gone over 60# on those.
To me, a violated back doesn’t look as good as a single ring, so I usually use snake skins on those bows.  To each their own

Just got some yew with too thick sapwood so I need to take a few rings off. Somehow it feels weird to violate rings even on yew. And it looks better as well.
And unlike many others I kinda like ring chasing and taking my time with a bow. I really get to know a stave when chasing a ring. And I have another 50+ shooters on my rack so I am not in a hurry to finish a new one

The sapwood is one ring;) it’s okay to make a ring thinner

It may be pointless to you, but if someone else thinks it looks better, it's not pointless to them. If they appreciate the challenge and reward in it, it's not pointless. Get the point?

Some are of the opinion that European Yew is more forgiving of ring violations.

Here's a yew flatbow that I peeled the sinew off because it was pulling up off in a couple spots. I sanded the back nice and smooth, the surface had been roughed prior to the sinew, and there are  plenty of violations and she pulls in 58#.
