Maple Mollegabet, 40# @ 27", 67" t2t: full draw p.2

Here's part 1:

At the moment, I've got the bow ready for floor tiller. I'm planning for it to come out around 40# at 26", and I'd like to try reflex the levers just a little bit. But I'm nervous about that, I think I need to make a caul. I'll also heat treat the belly. So much to do!

Making a caul is a good idea, but I've done it just with a wide shim if I wanted a more angular, less rounded bend.

Like, get a "base" board and lay a 3/4" thick pine board on that.  Place the bow back down and clamp or tie to both boards, with the lever hanging out over the end of the second board.  Then, heat the transition area and base of the lever, pulling the tip of the lever with a weight or slowly tightening a cord to bring the tip down.

  Good luck.

I'd use a block like I've done in the past but I'm worried about cracking.

  Hey, wait!

I know you plan on reflexing the levers, but in the vid your bow went from dead straight, zero deflex to a visible amount all at once.   Was that on purpose, like did you deflex with heat?  Or,  was that during floor tillering?

The bow is still straight; it's actually because of the fish-eye lens on the off-brand go-pro that I used to film.

I have a nicer camera but I haven't been able to figure out the auto focus on it as well, maybe I'll try again.

And here's a short video of the current bend:

Bend looks good to me, has it taken any set?  I would make those stiff tips thinner still -at least tapering out to the nocks... See how thin you can get away with :)

Set so far is just over 1 1/2 "

btw, how do I correctly measure set?

Heat treating should also mitigate some of the set, and I'm going to try to flip the tips a bit. Not sure how to go about that. I have a heat gun, but no caul or forms.

I dont know why, I feel like the fades are just a bit steep, don’t know if I’m right though.

measure tips original position before tillering begins. if stave was pipe straight to begin with pop the back against a wall and measure distance between back of handle and the wall or run a string between nocks in unbraced position and measure against the handle.

if you are at full draw with 1,5 set you have done a good job.

they are, I messed them up roughing out. I can't see much I can do about it now so I'm just hoping for the best.

Heat treat time!

Here's the unbraced profile after tillering.

Here's my janky set-up.

Hope it works!
