Hard maple tip overlays

Does Hard Maple need/want tip overlays? I noticed the back took a few dings during construction and it made me wonder about tip durability.

I've made bows out of softer woods with just side nocks, but no harm in adding overlays, esp. if the tips are narrow.
I've made quite a few tip overlays out of pretty soft wood (like black walnut, say), if I was happy with the grain, I guess.
