Osage/Beech Recurve

A few years ago I was pruning the big Purple Beech in the front yard and removed a branch that had been pruned a few times before. I was about to throw it on the burn pile and took a second look. This is what I made from it. It's 62"NTN measured straight across. Limbs are Osage 1 3/8" tapering to 1/2" tips and about 3/8" thick. These are the limbs I was considering backing with Maple but I didn't have to. Tips are fumed Ocean Spray. Riser is beech. I'm not sure where to measure the draw length but it's 38# at about 26". Limbs are finished with Tung Oil and riser is Rustoleum Ultracover gloss clear. It shot in the very high 170's at a bit over 10gpp. I did hit 180 once. I don't think it was full draw as I was still a bit chicken that it would disassemble itself. If it holds together I will skinny the tips and see what it will do.

Not a huge fan of those type of bows, but that is sweet! Nice bend! And that handle looks perfect. I bet your glad you kept it. Cheers- Brendan

Yeah, I don't like them either. I won't make another but I had that stick. It does shoot nice though :D

Sweet bow and impressive speed. Kinda fun to imagine how you might fool some glass folks at the range. Shave down those tips and see what she's got!

Very creative DC and useful too.Pretty riser for sure.Never heard of purple beech.I shoot with a friend that is into making take down bows.FG though.He adjusts the poundage by the degree of angle the riser is that the limbs are on with different risers using the same limbs.8 degree/10 degree/12 degree etc.Not unheard of I'm sure.
I see the bows as almost angular built.Like Egyption type really.
