For years now I’ve used a bandsaw. But when I’m in the mood for some more traditional work I’ll pick up a hatchet or heavy machete to rough out a stave.
For the last four or five months I’ve really come to love the D-Adze for doing my rough out work. A single edge bevel lets me get closer to my lines, more so than I would feel comfortable when using a hatchet. The one I made was constructed from an old yew stump I had laying around for a few years. And the thought to make one came to me whilst reading the book “
Cedar” which is all about the tools, techniques and products made and used by the people of the Pacific Northwest and the wonderful Western Red Cedar.
The eye is abolone and some turquoise for some odd ears in the usual U form.
An old hatchet head filed down the the shape and edge I wanted, lashes and pinned on.
