Michael:

Very nice bow ... thanks for posting and the videos.

I've had a vine maple stave that John Strunk and I harvested in OR back in 92 that needs to be made into a bow one of these days.  I've been away from archery for too long and getting fired up to get back into it.

Regarding your removing the bark, how much did you actually have to manually remove vs. having it pop loose during initial bending?  Just curious.  The stave I have is pretty lumpy so bark removal for your stave is of interest to me.  Thanks.

The long section you saw pop off in the video is the only part that popped off in  a big section. Other smaller 2 to 3 inch sections popped off on the other limb but The rest was scraped and picked at with the leather awl on an old scout knife (works great for those little hard to reach areas.)   If I had my way I would remove the bark immediately after cutting.

I have to say, really nice bow. Sometimes all the fancy overlays, reflex tips, backing and paint only serve to distract from one like this. I appreciate bows period but, this is my favorite. Did you start with any reflex to get that flat perfect profile.

Thanks,
Greg

The videos are real nice. Just watched! My only question now is where can I buy a stave like that. Really!

Thanks,
Greg

I like Lumpy!  Good lines, and some character. Great photos too. You did well.
