Hophornbeam with character
« on: March 18, 2018, 09:31:35 am »
Hi Guys,
This bow is 65" ntn, pulls 45lbs @ 27"
It's sealed with 4 coats of Truoil, then 2 coats of helmsman satin finish. The handle is Goat hide tanned in Pigeon poop , my Stepson brought back from Africa. The back has natural furloughs , and a knot in one end. Was a fun build from a stave that was a might be a bow, or not.  The other side of the split stave is a lot better.
Thanks for looking, all feedback appreciated.

Looks like that stave wanted to be a bow after all SC. Working on a couple HHB right now. Might not be the "King" like Osage but I'd say it's a knight in shining armor when it all comes together. Very nice bend that one looks like it should last along time.

That looks like a very nice bow. Bet it shoots fast and smooth.  (SH)

Nice bow!  The rack could stand a bit of rework, though >:D Lol!  Good job!  Hope it is a good shooter for you!

Gotta love HHB - I agree with bjrogg - gets my vote for the best white wood. In that length and draw weight I bet it is a sweet shooter. As nice as this one turned out, can't wait to see what you do with the other half !
