Looking good Swampman, will that be a reserve bow?

If it turns out nicely it will be a reserve bow.  I am working on a couple others too so maybe I will end up with more than one reserve bow.

JW that handle is very cool next to the Ipe.

The birch stave checked a little overnight on the thicker end which tells me to reduce it some more before it becomes a 59” bow. I’m going to aggressively reduce it to near final dimensions tonight then clamp it with some reflex and let it simmer few days from there to see how she goes. Filled them with tight bond this morning to slow them down for the day. The back still looks great.

I lost an eighth of an inch refitting it, which works out good now its 1.5 deep instead of 1 5/8ths. 1.5 seems to be the norm for most people, just enough to get a good grip but not big and bulky.

Well she blew up guys. Was at #45 @18. Put the string on pulled to maybe ten inches and she blew. That's the second backing strip of that batch that's done that. Got one left gonna make sticks for stirring paint out of it.
No need to fear this is why I started early.

Got ring for the back chased, need to make a few small adjustments to lay out. Don't have much extra for width, but should be enough. A little deflex in both limbs, Will be putting on caul down the road.

Last I checked MC was 12%. Going to weigh daily while getting it to floor tiller size. Not going to put a string on until I know weight is stable while storing it in the dinning room. Seems to work well for me with BL. And so far wife has not objected with the last couple

JW, sorry to hear about that loss.  Hopefully the next one works out better.  I'm getting excited seeing what people are working on in here! I may not get started for another week or so, but I'm getting amped up for it.

Update - further reduced. It’s picked up some natural reflex. I’ve now clamped it down to try to avoid heat adjustments and to keep the reflex the same on both sides.

Hoosierf, I don't see it as gaining reflex, I think of it more like  ITS ALIVE! ITS ALIVE!
