Got to go out and shoot my finished bow today - some thoughts.
« on: February 20, 2018, 06:52:33 pm »
Final specs: 66" ntn, 45# @28". I went to my archery store and the bloke helped me get a dozen 650 spine cedar arrows. They're nice and light and they fly great.

Here's some photos:

Full draw for those who missed it in my other thread:

Using some pieces of old yoga mat stuffed into a pizza box as a target for now. It's a lil small but I can hit it every time so that's nice.

Bow shoots really nice. No hand shock, smooth draw, feels good. Now I just have to work on my technique a bit. I bruised my wrist a little, and I know my elbow tends to wander skywards.

Looking forward to the next one. Thanks everyone for your generous help during the process  (SH) (SH) (SH)

I'm not yet a bowyer, but I hope to be able to make one soon. That bow looks really good to me.

That is a very good tiller on that bow no matter how long you have been working on bows. Excellent job!

Very nice tiller. BJ's right, there's nothing like shootin' one of your own. Congrats! :)

Thanks!

All it took for me to improve so much on my previous bows was a bit of patience.

Looks like ashooter, and your arrows are all sticking in the target parallel, so that's a start.   ;)

Does anyone know where I could learn how to teach myself good shooting form? Or where I could upload a video and have them critique what I'm doing?

Very good job, Julian and from the position of the arrows in the target both you and the bow are good shooters.
There are quite a few different styles of shooting; instinctive, gap, etc. Find the one that suits you best and stick with it. Consistency is the key to good shooting.
Patience is the bowyers #1 tool.  ;)

You did a great job making that bow bend, and you shoot it well too.
