A different kind of wood and strings

I haven't posted a whole lot the last few months and probably haven't touched a bow since Eric's gathering but just thought I'd share what I was up to. I'm just about getting finished building my first scratch (almost) guitar. I'm not sure I like it more than building bows since there's more precision needed but I have had a lot of fun. It's a semi-hollow pine body with a hackberry top. Back is dyed with fiebing's and it's finished with tru oil. The only thing I didn't make was the neck since I had this one laying around. I wound the pickups on a homemade winder and they sound pretty good. A good mix of Merle Haggard and The Ventures

Nice job! Have you tried Lin-Speed as a finish? Probably better than Truoil.

Way cool ! Man - You really took Me back mentioning the Ventures
. That's how I learned to play the Guitar a Million years ago - I'd play a song on the album, stop it and then figure it out. Bob

That's just so cool, David! We'll look forward to you playing it at Eric's place.
There is just 1 problem ..... 3 strings too many.

Very nice David. My cousin built a couple but they don't look that nice.

Thanks for the compliments guys! I'm glad I'm done with it though so I can get back to making bows, all these jigs and tools are crowding the shop.

That looks very cool David, never seen a guitar with a Hackberry top. The grain makes an attractive contrast to the red stained body.
Great job!
