wide limbed osage 3curve part 2 47#/28″ (No. 96)
« on: December 16, 2017, 10:52:01 am »
This stave was super clean, bright yeller and low density – so something like the opposite osage than bow No.95. But has some nice character, curves and whoop di doos. Some little heat correctings brought it in balance and in line.

Black buffalo horn for the tip overlays and dyed salmon leather for the handle (upholstered with leather.

That's a beauty Simson. Love the character :OK

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

Wow, once again, a stunning bow. Seems the recurves are even working a tiny bit.
I surely like these bendy recurved shorties.

Really nice bendy Simon! Somehow I really like the look of a wide limbed bendy! Maybe because most people make them narrow or something? Anyways... Lovely bow! Any tips on how to process the fish skin? Snakes are impossible for me to get but the fish handle looks pretty awesome!

Yes they work a bit, I wanted to reach fully 28" draw.

Leon, this is not skin but dyed leather. Here in Bavaria lives a Siberian who masters an ancient craft making leather from fish skin. He does that with very different fish, also sturgeon (which is wonderful- but expensive. He has shown me a belt - not from this world, boy). The leather from this handle is from Finland - a friend brought it to me.

To process fish skin (I did several times, check on my site fish backing):
scratch all flesh off, tacker on a board outside down and let dry. Lot of stinky work!
