Hickory Backed Reflex Deflex Buildalong
« on: March 21, 2008, 11:29:43 pm »
I just finished a video buildalong on how to glue together a reflex deflex.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=80527FAa-L0

I used a hickory backing, same as 3 rivers ones, a reflex deflex stave and bowgrip.

An interesting method for sure, a little time consuming, and wasteful compared to using inner tube seems to me. Just my stubborn oppinion.

That's pretty cool. I would have never thought to use plastic wrap for clamping pressure.

Awesome video
You make it look to easy. I use pretty much the same basic form and method and have had great results. You know what you are doing and it shows in your work.
I know you have gotten a hard time from some folks here but I think your work is very artistic  and you clearly know how to make a great bow. Jesse

who's giving bowstick-man a hard time?  He is good, and all his videos (yes, i know, they serve to sell his stuff!!! get over it !) are very helpful.  And no, he didn't pay me to say that!

I personally use the rubber band method and then clamp at the deflex points.  I can reuse the tire tube for several glue ups. The video is pretty cool though.

I made my reflex/deflex longbow Exactly like this. Very easy. My kit came from Rudderbowns. I did a Tri-lamb actually. Osage Belley, Ipe center core, and a Hickory back. The shrink wrap holds everything extremely tight. Especially when it is cooked to a Bow Oven. Bow Ovens are also very easy to make yourself.

Great Video, Thanks for sharing.
