Venison with juniper

Hello all. This recipe gives a very tasty and easy to make stew.

2 lb venison shoulder, cubed.
1/2 lb onion, chopped.
1/4 lb mushrooms, sliced.
8 oz red wine.
3/4 oz juniper berries, crushed.
4 oz sour cream.
2 tablespoon soy sauce.
2 tablespoons plain wheat flour.
Black pepper to taste.

Put the juniper berries in the bottom of the pot of a slow cooker, then add the venison, onion, mushroom, soy sauce, pepper and 4 oz of the wine. Cook on low for 6 hours. Then add the flour and sour cream to the remaining 4 oz of wine, stir to a paste and add to the pot, stirring well in. Leave for 15 minutes or so to heat through, and add more flour in wine if a thicker stew is wanted. Serve with potatoes, rice, bread or whatever you like.

The recipe also works well with pork.

Sounds like a good stew, a wee bit heavy on the onion, though :OK >:D -C-!  May have to try that with elk and sweet potatoes.  May have to make a few changes to suit my wife's diet, but stew is versatile, and almost always good!
