Paraffin finish over snakeskins
« on: October 11, 2017, 11:24:42 am »
I'm about to finish an Osage bow with a real nice set of copperheads. I plan on glueing them down with tight bond III. My favorite selfbow finish so far is parafin. Anyone think paraffin over snakeskin would cause any issue with the tight bond glue?

I don't think paraffin would work well over skins. I think it would sit on top and eventually peel off.

I've used it over painted linen and liked it so thougt it would be fine over skins. Just worried about glue failing

TB3 is pretty heat resistant, won't lift with the modarate heat need to melt parrafin. Its effectiveness as a finish over snakeskin, I have no idea. If possible glue a scrap of skin on some wood and try it out first before commiting to the bow.
