Distance 450 grains as opposed to 500 grains

50# bows 28" draw. I doubt it would make a lot of difference on 70# plus broadheads. The difference is not as decisive as I expected. I was looking for all the 450's to be about the same distance in front of the 500's. The longer 500's will be about the same as the shorter shot 450's. Not sure how much that 5/8 difference in draw will make.

Steve that's about the same I was getting when I tested it. That's where I got my guess. My flight arrows were broadheads but not so good ones cause they feel short of your 221 mark. :( Arvin

Arvin, if you have a bow that is hitting about 210 it very well may be good enough to hit over 221 with a good shot and a breeze blowing the right way.

So, you got only another 10 yds by losing 50 grains of mass?

I am going to have to rethink my philosophy on matched sets of arrows.  Maybe matched spine is all you really need to worry about. Maybe matching mass is just fussy piddling around?  If the only gain in flight shooting is 10 yds for 50 grains of variance, the variance at a 20 yard ethical shot on deer means diddly squat or LESS!

JW I agree in hunting situation. I would go with heavier arrow every time. But in flight shooting especially when trying to brake a record. It's a completely different animal. That last ten yards is a bunch. Arvin
