Bend check after heat treating
« on: September 08, 2017, 07:33:21 pm »
This is a BL bow I've been working on. It's got some natural deflex, so I flipped the tips a bit after I had the tiller worked out.

Then... I gave it a good heat treating and holy monkeys... it gained a ton of draw weight :o - like 15 lbs.

So now I've got to remove wood, but I thought I'd check with you guys to see if you see any areas you think I should concentrate on, or if you think the bend looks good in which case I'll just remove an even amount across the entire belly.

Thanks in advance for your input.  :)

You could bring the bend back into the fades on the top and bottom limbs. Other than that she looks good.   :OK

Looks more like the mid limb areas could work a bit more to me.  If you just heat-treated it then I would hold off reducing much weight until it hydrates back up.

Thanks all for your thoughts. I haven't worked a whole lot w/ BL. I remember many of you saying how well it reacts to heat treating, but I wasn't quite expecting it to react that well.  (=)

Sounds like some scrapes off the mids to inners then overall weight reduction is the way to go.  :)
