New era rope making machine

That's what they called it back then in 1911.Made in Fairfield,Iowa. It basically works on the same concept as a flemsh twist bow string.Twist one way and wrap the other.Only the rope ends up being one ply surrounded by three. There are four hooks on there that get turned by hand to make the rope.I've made rope from hemp and nylon bale twine from this anywhere's from 30' to 150 ' long and 1" thick to 1/4" thick.I can't remember what sale I got it from but have owned it for at least 30 years.Came in handy many times pulling over trees/camping at rendezvouus's etc.

When I was making model ships I made one very close to that out of a Phillips tripe head razor. Needed it for twisting scale rope. Here's a video of the real thing

Yep DC.Cool contraption you got there.I forgot to show the wooden seperator.Using this requires an operator to keep turning on the rope maker as the wood seperator moves along.

You can't beat the old stuff, especially if it's called "New Era"
Great find

Here's mine. It runs on 4" of HO track. The twisting forces this car to run down the track. I was starting to wonder if this would make bowstrings but there's no need to reverse twist the whole thing.

My great-great grandpa made his living as a rope maker. That's how he paid the way for my family to come from Germany. He twisted up ropes for ship passes.

Dc...No your right there is no need to reverse twist it because it does it on it's own.Wrapping into itself. On real long ropes over 100' can require a little hep once in a while but on shorter ropes not.
