Uwe, thanks for the pattern. I'll have to make a pair for myself. These will be much easier to make than a pair of turn shoes. Leather and I don't get along - I usually impale myself a lot when I try to mess with the stuff. Maybe the spirit of the animal getting me back.

I guess these shoes are for indoor use. To wear these shoes during winter season or cold days will be very comfortable. I'm desperately trying to replicate these shoes by the help of your pattern, but I couldn't work on it.

Nope, the original that I replicated had been melting out of an ice patch in the high mountains of Norway, where nobody could have had a house. It was perhaps lost of thrown away by a reindeer hunter. In fact, the terrain there is very rocky with sharp stones everywhere. These shoes does not last long in such terrain.

fur liners or even grass would do a good job of insulating these . these outer parts would of protected the fur liners and were disposable. when they wore out you made another pair.

I agree, those "shoes" look extremely nice and would be a nice pattern for early/late Fall deer stalks.  I will have to have a go at making me (and my two young boys, 11 & a pair.  Might have to add a little layer or thin lines of "shoe goop" to the soles to keep from slipping on my rear but other than that they look perfect.

this style of shoe actually dates much further back than the bronze age... and mesolithic examples of shoes like this have been found.. also, has anyone noticed how similar to the scottish ghilly shoe these appear to be?

I made something like these for SCA events and almost barefoot country walking, I added an 8 mm flat Vibram sole and they lasted good and long. Nice ground feel, quiet and just enough protection that rocks dont tear your feet up. Maybe not Cave man but it works.
