Just Start Over?
« on: March 04, 2017, 09:38:57 pm »
So I've started trying to create a point, but I'm not sure what to do about the curve. Any suggestions?

I don't know about your knapping skills, but that one can be managed. The end that is furthest from your finger could lose a little from the concave side and be almost straight. It is a lot like knappping a bottle bottom.

I have no skills, just got some tools and rocks. It seems that every piece I start with is curved and even though I can shape it I can't seem to work out the curve or thickness. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

CDC, if you can link up with a knapper for even a few minutes, he/she can show you a lot about that flake. It is next to impossible to straighten it if you don't know how, but it is pretty easy if you do know how. Try to find a knapper close to you. If you are anywhere near Bryan/College Station, TX, I'll be glad to help you out.

Or you could steam it for about an hour and put it in a vice to straighten it out. ;D

I'm in north Florida and so far I have not found anyone in my area that does flintknapping.
