I'm enjoying checking in on the builds from time to time. Part of me wishes I had gotten in on this, the other part realizes I haven't had time to work on a bow since you all started this trade. My summers get pretty busy and even my "free time" is spoken for. Looks like some nice bows in the works. Should be some happy traders

Going for simson's hid. Last year I had a bow with tension fractures on the belly from my overly zealous attempt at reflexing.the belly was flat.i hollowed out one side and tempered it,strung it up and it held a descent tiller.one limb carried much more mass but the tiller was good, made me think that this was a great mass reducing technique!thanks simon!

I read in one of the bibles with proper mass placement that a 40# and a 60# can have the same cast.so this is now what going for c/w thinned out molly type levers.i don't own a chrony but the plan A bow seems quite fast for a mid 4o's.thoughts.

Here is my cod skin backed hickory recurve at full draw. I just need to add the handle wrap and it's done

Greenriver, that bend looks sick! (that's a good thing ;))

Well. I just submitted my grad school application, and now I should be able to get to work.  :BB I should be able to work on the bows most of the day tomorrow, I'll see if I can post a picture update soon.

So here's the honey locust bow on the long string. The string hung down 7 or so inches. Where you see it now is at 22 inches. It's pulling 50 lbs right now. The squares you see in the tile vaneer are 4" x 4". So the limbs are bending around 8 inches.

How does the tiller look? Should I continue on the long string a little longer or should I try and brace it now?

Brace it as soon as tiller allows. Long string is a bad indicator of proper tiller

I agree with High Desert ad the crooked photo is also throwing me off.  I think that it might be bending to much near the handle on the right side where as the left seems pretty decent considering how early you are in the process.  I would just remove a little more then brace it with a strig the length you plan on using before getting to pick pn the perfect tiller, just keep them fairly even and without any hinges until then.

Hard to say but I think it is bending more on the right. That being said it looks as if there is s deflex kink right at the fade. Cheers- Brendan
