Wenge as a core lam?
« on: February 18, 2017, 12:46:05 pm »
Hello everybody,

Thinking of making a trilam or quadlam and want to put wenge in the core with osage on the belly and bamboo on the back.  Any experiences with wenge before?  I've heard it was a little on the brittle side but not sure.

I've never used wenge but as a center lam it should be OK. The core lam is in a neutral plane I think.

one of my favorite BBOs has a core lam of wenge... it's porous and shows a few pores but works great... and has for over a decade.
Seems like common sense isn't very common any more...

Fine for a core.  It's a little brittle for a belly, and you have to make sure the grain really IS how it LOOKS, if that makes sense.
