Birch bark, when to harvest?
« on: February 12, 2017, 11:51:52 am »
As the title asks, when is the time to start harresting? I've never harvested it so any tips are appreciated? And incase there's a tree or two I cut a little deep and take the cambium, what are some good uses for paper birch? If I Accidentally girdle it, I'd might as well cut it down and make use of it.

Thanks,
Kyle

the bark peels off the easiest (cabrium and all) just before the tree starts to leaf out. you can get it off in one big piece if you hit the timing right.

Thanks for the tip. It shouldn't be too much longer around here. It's been warm enough this week the grass is starting to green up a bit. This time last week it was in the teens and since Friday it's been up to atleast 50* each day.
