Welcome from the Fox Cities. Don't know how far you are from Hartford, but there is a great hardwood lumberyard (Kettle Moraine Hardwoods) near it. I've found nice hickory, hard maple, and Eastern Red Cedar boards there and their prices are good. Avoid the red elm, though. It's an hours drive for me and I make the trip a few times a year. I started with a Sage, too, and they are terrific bows. Very forgiving. Then I started making my own and,unfortunately, chose to shoot them.
Ask lots of questions before you start your board bow. You'll get a ton of good advice from the bowyers on here.
