Hi all,
I cut this piece of BL out of a bunch of trees, that had fallen during an ice storm two years ago. The diameter of the trunk was approx. 4 inches - i got 4 quarter logs out of it. There was a lot of sapwood and not much heartwood, so i decided to chase the first sapwood annual ring (boarder ring), that was still white, but had the slight honey coloration of the heartwood at some places. The piece was straight enough but had two relative big knots and some propeller twist. I used heat gun to correct what i dared and the rest had to fall under character
I have given the bow a name AWOHALI (meaning bald eagle in Cherokee), because of the creamy white back and dark belly.
The bow is bend through the handle D bow, modeled roughly after Comanchee bows. It's 60" long and pulls 45#@26". It's 35mm wide at the handle and 20mm at the nocks. The belly is slightly heat threated. String is made from Dacron, equiped with rabbit fur silencers. The bow holds approx. 1" of reflex and is dead straight after shooting. It has a little hand shock, but the arrows fly straight and hard. The bow is for my friend Roberto from Trieste. Thanks for watching.
