Woolen Shirt for the winter
« on: January 23, 2017, 06:32:24 pm »
Hi,
just have finished a woolen shirt from an french army blanket. The blanket was very thick and so the shirt is warm and holds wind an moisture out.

Nice Andrea. Did you come up with the pattern or is it a commercial pattern?

That's pretty cool!  Is it itchy?

I like it!  Nice work.  I have thought about buying a wool blanket and having my mom sew up a pair of pants for cold weather hunting.  That would be much cheaper than buying wool pants.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Nice!
Does it have a hood, or is that a "neck warmer" collar?

Thanks for your compliments.. :D

I worked out the pattern with two old jackets of mine and drawn it on a  newspaper. The pullover is handstitched with the yellow cotton yarn you can see.

The wool is a liittle bit itchy but normally I wear a shirt with long arms under. So on the pic: I wear a sweat hoodie - you can see the hood. The collar is lined with some dark brown very soft Merino wool, so that it isn't itchy, also the neckline...

The price of the blanket was about 25€ (30$). It was so large, that I had made a additional  vest from it.
And I'm thinking about an extra hood to button down at the collar.

I really like it Andrew. It's a real nice shape and I like the big pocket in front to warm your hands and carry things. Should be a warm one.
Clint did I hear you say pants? I didn't think you knew what they where.lol. Might want to make sure it's not the itchy wool for pants.lol

Here you can see the vest, I have made from the blanket also.
I wear the vest over the pullover.
