Japanese saw rasp
« on: February 17, 2017, 12:47:21 pm »
I got one of these from Lee Valley. I don't use the handle, I made one much like a file handle. Anyway, has anyone seen a wider one of these? This one is 1 1/8" wide and once in a while it rolls in my hand and digs in or maybe it's the opposite :) I thought a wider one might be a little more stable.

Not like that.  I have a Shinto rasp with two different sides and love the thing.  Also, a small pull saw.  I really enjoy using them.

It looks like this now. I couldn't get used to that handle so I sent it back to Lee Valley and just ordered a replacement blade. How wide is your Shinto?

You can buy Shintos in both versions, but no wider.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.

Darn, I really like it, it fills the gap between farriers rasp and scraper. I guess I'll just get used to it. It's a poor man blames his tools :D
