Mystery wood

Anyone know what wood this is? It's heavy.   also this tree is a mystery too probably should have just cut a maple but the first one was hit by another tree so I thought I'd salvage it. The second one is in my side yard and has a strait long knot free second trunk I'd like to work on. Thanks again for your time and feedback

Tulip poplar, not good bow wood but makes good arrows.

First four pics are of the same tree. Last two are different tree...so I'm guessing the second tree is the tulip poplar?

The first one is hickory of some sort. You could probably tell most easily from the nuts and leaves,  up it doesn't really matter what variety. I've made bows from that type and it's good.

Hickory!?!? Yes!!! No nuts on this one, between the tree that fell on it and the grape vines it was on its last legs. It had one branch and was about twenty feet tall and no top, that had been broken off. I'm excited hickory is supposed to be "beginner friendly" thanks so much for replies everyone!!!

Check the buds on the Hickory. If they are yellow it's Bitternut.
