Boo/Ipe Recurve
« on: December 11, 2016, 12:35:35 pm »
Greetings to all the bowyers on PA , from Wales . UK.

Heres my latest bow to look at...

61" ntn
54lbs @ 26" ( my draw length )
moso bamboo and ipe
rock maple kerf joints in the recurves

The bow took no set and the recurves kept the 4" I glued them up at....The bow shoots very well, and draws smoothly...good speed... and I got the recurves to open up nicely at full  draw.   Its not perfect  ( not much is in this world ), but overall I'm happy with it....

Loving that tiller Dave!  Where on earth (well where in Wales) did you source any Ipe?  I can only find decking boards round here.

Posts like this make me want to try a lam bow sometime. She's a beaut!

Excellent bow, Dragonman. Ipe/boo makes an excellent bow, no matter in what form and you have given a great example.

Dang, I love the finish and handle on that. Looks almost like an 'art' bow you'd see on etsy but I'm sure that, unlike those, yours flat smokes an arrow!

That's a piece of rock maple. He did a kerf splice on the recurve.  Nice job! Cheers- Brendan

I see it now ::) ::). My picture was sized just big enough to put the end of the insert out of frame. Thanks Brendan. It looks even nicer now :D

That is one nice looking bow at every stage and nice to see a flat bow out of ipe too.

Yes Sir, that's a looker. And your tiller on the recurves look spot on to me. Funny, I have almost the same combination glued up right now.

That is a nice one :) Well done
Stuckinthemud - just go on goggle and search ipe decking boards - there are loads of suppliers in the UK. I get mine from Silva timber, sight unseen but I have always got good stuff from them, make sure and stress that you won't accept it if the grain isn't straight enough, no pin knots etc
